Admissions RequirementsCandidates wishing to be enrolled at the University of Dar es Salaam to persue the various degree and non-degree programmes have fulfil the general minimum entrance requirements as well as the additional entrance requirements specific to each academic programme. Candidates applying for programmes under the IUCEA students' exchange programme must fulfil the entrance qualifications for similar programmes at the University of Dar es Salaam in addition to the meeting the requirements of the admitting university whise decision shall be final. General Minimum Entrance RequirementsA candidate shall be deemed elible for consideration for admission to a first-degree programme of the university of Dar es Salaam if the candidate has one of the following qualifications: - Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E) or equivalent, with passes in FIVE approved subjects, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (A.C.S.E.E) or equivalent and one of the following combinations of passes in the A.C.S.E.E. or equivalent;
- Direct entry (A-level Secondary Education) qualification: Either Two principal level passes in appropriate subjects at the same sitting with total points (form the two subjects) not below 5 based on the following grade to point conversion scale: A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5 or Two principal level passes of grade 'C' or higher if not at the same sitting or A minimum of 4.5 points from 3 relevant subjects for those applying for admission into the Bsc with Education programme. [Note: Principal level passes in Divinity/ Islamic knowledge are not counted].
- Equivalent (e.g. Diploma) qualification: An appropriate equivalent Diploma/Certificate of not less than second Class/Credit level approved by the UDSM Senate. Note: Application from countries wich follow an 8-4-4 aducation system need to complete at least one year of study at a university in their own countries before they can be considered for admission into the University of Dar es Salaam.
- A minimum score of 100 obtained from Mature Age Entry (MAEE) consisting of a score of at least 50 in paper I and 50 in Paper II. MAEE was introduced in order to give opportunity to exceptionally well qualified Tanzanian candidates who wish to study for a first degree of the University of Dar es Salaam but do not posses qualifications which satisfy the University's Direct/Equivalent enrty requirements. To qualify for MAEE onr must be 25 years of age or older on 1st August of the year in which admission is sought. In addition, one must have obtained at least three credits in approved subjects at the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or completed Form VI at least five years before 1st August of the year in which admission is sought.
- Has completed and passed a pre-entry programmes for female candidates. This programme was introduced with the objective of training candidates without the requisite minimum entry qualifications as well as those who do not meet various programme cut-off points. Candidates considered for this programme should have at least 4.0 to 4.5 points from two A.C.S.E.E. subjects. On successful completion of a six to eight week course, usually in science and Engineering subjects, the University Senate approves the admissions of the female candidates into the varios science-related programmes.
Additional Entrance RequirementsIn addition to the general minimum enrtance requirements, there are additional qualifications, specific to the various degree programmes, as shown in the table below: Programme: BA with Education, Duration: 3 years; - Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications: Two or more principal level passes at the same sitting with a 'C' or higher grade in two teaching subjects.
- Equivalent Qualifications: Atleast a Second Class or 'B' average Diploma in either Teacher Education or Adult Education with 'B+' (or 60% marks) average in two teaching subjects. Passes inteaching subjects Methodology will not be considered.
Programme: B.Ed in Adulty Education; Duration: 3 years; - Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications: Two or more principal level passes at 'C' or higher grade at the same sitting in two teaching subjects.
- Equivalent Qualifications: An appropriate equivalent Diploma in Education with an overall grade of 'B' or an Adult Education Diploma from the institute of Adult Educatio, Dar es Salaam or Agency for the Development of Educational Management (ADEM) institut, Bagamoyo with passes at an overall grade of 'B+' or better and at least a 'C' grade in three subjects at C.S.E.E. Passes in teaching methodology courses will not be considered.
Programme: BEd in Arts; Duration: 3 years; - Direct Enrty (Form VI)Qualification: Two or more principal level passes at 'C' or higher grade at the same sitting in two teaching subjects.
- Equivalent Qualifications: An appropriate Diploma in Education with an overall grade of 'B' or An Adulty Education Diploma from the Institute of Adult Education, Dar es Salaam or Agency for the Development of Educational Management (ADEM) institut, Bagamoyo with passes at an overall grade of 'B+' or better and at least a 'C' grade in three subjects at C/S.E.E. Passes in teaching methodology courses will not be considered.
Programme: B.Ed in Science; Duration: 3 years; - Direct Entry (Form VI) Qualifications: Two or more principal level passes with at least one 'C' in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
- Equivalent Qualifications: An appropriate equivalent Diploma in Education recognised by the UDSM Senate, with an overall grade of 'B' or beteer in Science subjects. Passes in teaching methodology methodology courses will not be considered.
Programme: BSc with Education; Duration: 3 years; - Direct Entry (form VI) Qualifications: Two principal level passes in any of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Geography.
- Equivalent Qualifications: An appropriate equivalent Diploma/Certificate, approved by the UDSM Senate, with an average of grade 'B' or higher. Passes in Teaching Methodology courses will not be considered.
